Pips squeak as BW cuts spending further & sheds 60 office jobs

British Waterways has announced a raft of new cost-cutting measures to meet its reduced circumstances. These include a freeze on pay and most recruitment, reducing its back office payroll bill by £3.5million, making up to 60 staff redundant, consolidating offices and outsourcing still more activities. There will be no reduction on the number of staff working 'on the bank', BW claims. However, it says there will be more 'operational efficiencies', including further outsourcing of vegetation works and a review of staff allowances. The regional structure put in place in 2009 remains unchanged.
