"Am I too late for the regatta?" Southern softies had a rude awakening last winter, when Jack Frost came calling and snow fell in bucketloads - for weeks on end. Sue Milton was on hand with her camera to record the unusual climatic event and took this amusing shot of the Thames at Henley, close by the site of the world famous (and normally sun-drenched) regatta. It's a few minutes walk from the Trent & Mersey Canal at Bridge 80, but don't miss the Woolpack at Weston upon Trent, between Stone and Great Haywood. It's quite the nicest pub we've been to in ages. Facing the picturesque village green, with a good range of beers, a friendly atmosphere and excellent value food (two evening meals for ￡8 on week nights), we will certainly be calling there again on our next trip along the T&M. It's especially convivial in the winter months, when the real fire is burning brightly, so we may even pay a visit by road in the next month or so.
