Locomotive Plates Raise over £16,000 for canal restoration

A total of £16,000 was raised in aid of the Cromford and Grantham canal restorations after the name and cabside number plates of 1940 Great Western Railway locomotive Wollaton Hall, were put up for auction on 8th September by transport historian Peter Stone. The brass and steel nameplate fetched £12,000, while the cabside brass numberplate raised a further £1,500 and, as it was a charitable donation, the auctioneers waived their fee.
