HARKER'S YARD HELPS HERITAGE BOATYARD TRAINEES GAIN EXPERIENCE

Two trainees from the National Waterways Museum's Heritage Boatyard recently spent a fortnight at the Harker's Yard Pioneer Skills Centre in Brightlingsea, Essex, to gain experience of different types of heritage boat maintenance. The trainees, aged 20, and 27, had the chance to work on a range of vessels. On-site shipwrights helped them undertake a condition survey, learn about the reconstruction of historic vessels, examine the build and handling of replica rowing gigs, and sail the historic Essex Smack, Pioneer, dating back to 1864 and recently fully restored.
