FLOOD-PROOF VISITOR MOORINGS IN BATH

Following extensive flooding over the winter, the Canal & River Trust has erected a new landing stage on the visitor moorings near Pulteney Bridge in Bath. The new moorings are an impressive structure. They should make it much safer for boaters joining or leaving the Kennet & Avon Canal who stop here during high water levels. Until now it has not been easy to moor at this point, with piled sides and old steps right at the entrance of the canal alongside a stormwater and stream outlet - particularly when the river was fast-flowing. The very high rise and fall piles give an indication of how the level of the River Avon can increase. Observant boaters will have seen the impressive levels of past floods recorded beneath the nearby footbridge.
