This is excellent walking territory. Just trekking along the towpath is enjoyable enough, although it can get extremely muddy (especially the river section below Oakmeadow Ford Lock) after heavy rain. For a one-way walk with a difference, how about Cheddleton to Consall Forge with return travel by steam train?
