Torfaen Council to appoint canal officer for Mon & Brec restoration

The Monmouthshire, Brecon & Abergavenny Canals Trust has welcomed the decision of Torfaen Council to create a new full-time post of canal coordinator. The role will be to develop a strategy for the restoration, and seek external sources of funding to restore and improve the maintenance of the canal through the borough. The job was originally posted in March, but by the closing date in May the position had not been filled, so it was extended to 19th July. The council has also confirmed its long-term vision to restore the canal in phases, starting at Five Locks in Cwmbran and working southwards to its boundary 3 miles away near Malpas.
