Ellesmere warehouse to be restored as part of housing development

Developers have promised to repair and refurbish the historic warehouse at the end of the Ellesmere Arm of the Llangollen Canal, if Shropshire County Council grants permission for a retirement village alongside. The newly unveiled plans show 59 canalside apartments and ten maisonettes on the land surrounding the former canal warehouse in New Wharf Road. The development itself would apparently be in the modern mock-warehouse-style now common among such developments. The proposals include the repair and refurbishment of the warehouse, at least if only to arrest its continued deterioration while a sustainable use is found to secure its long-term future.
