Boaters on the River Weaver have had an eventful time in the last couple of years, which doesn't look set to end until mid-March 2020. It began with an accident in June 2018 that saw the Daniel Adamson steamer collide with the upstream lock gates of Marsh Lock, which connects the Weaver to the Manchester Ship Canal, causing them to fracture and the heelpost to split. Although the Danny itself was intact and managed to pass through and continue its Weaver cruise, the damage to the lock meant it was trapped on the river until the spring of 2019. Luckily a major dredging programme during the summer of 2018 allowed it to reach the Anderton Boat Lift, making its stay more interesting.
