AUSTRALIAN WATER CONSERVATION AND REUSE RESEARCH PROGRAM

Stage 1 of the Australian Water Conservation and Reuse Research Program commenced in 2003 and lays common factual foundations for the advancement of urban water conservation and reuse. In May 2004 a series of workshops were run in all the Australian states. They presented reviews of national status on water recycling (including John Radcliffe's acclaimed ATSE review "Water Recycling in Australia" ), water sensitive urban design and integrated urban water management, and eight issues papers covering public acceptance, economics and externalities, institutional impediments, public health, viruses, organic chemicals, impacts of irrigation with reclaimed water on quality of produce and on soil and water, domestic scale innovative products, plumbing regulations and a manual on contractual arrangements between sellers and users of reclaimed water.
