NSW METROPOLITAN WATER PRICE REVIEW 2005

In September 2005, the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) completed its 2005 review of prices for NSW metropolitan water agencies with the publication of final determinations for Sydney Water, Hunter Water and Sydney Catchment Authority. The Tribunal published determinations for Gosford City Council and Wyong Shire Council in May. The determinations fundamentally changed pricing structures for some agencies, particularly Sydney Water Corporation and the Sydney Catchment Authority. The Tribunal's investigations also identified a number of challenges facing each agency. The four factors common to each agency that heavily influenced the Tribunal's decisions were: 1. the scarcity of water 2. the need to maintain and renew assets 3. population growth 4. the increasing complexity of water supply arrangements.
