WATER CONSERVATION THROUGH TRADE WASTE MANAGEMENT

Water conservation is an imperative step in total water resource management. Central Highlands Water (CHW), through its trade waste management system, has focused efforts on water conservation with some of its largest industrial and commercial water users, with the aim of reducing waste generation, conserving resources, long term water resource management and continuous improvement in environmental performance. CHW has realigned its trade waste management style from a historical enforcement and revenue gathering approach to a partnering approach, to encourage waste minimisation and efficient resource use. Several trade waste customers have now implemented trade waste management plans with a view to conserving water. In some cases a reduction in water use of up to 90% has been achieved.
