Reuse of greywater is one of the main alternative water sources and is an important aspect of water conservation strategies. Greywater reuse offers several advantages to the user, but there are potential environmental and health issues related to its use if certain advisory measures are not properly adhered to. This review on greywater reuse in Australia summarises current recommendations and discusses the differences in both the detail and content of regulations set by each State/Territory. It also highlights the scarcity of research data on how greywater is actually used at the household level. It concludes that development of a standard national policy regarding greywater reuse should be considered, as this may simplify implementation of greywater reuse.
