Expert Warning On Delta Risks

Experts convening at the recent Aquaterra 2009 event in Amsterdam expressed alarm over the lack of global recognition of the vulnerability of delta regions and estuaries. The three-day conference attracted over 600 of the world's top experts, who undertook in-depth discussions of how best to ensure a sustainable future for the world's largest deltas. The jointly compiled closing statement warned of the massive challenges facing deltas over the next 50 years. More comprehensive assessments of these dynamic natural systems are required in order to establish the best measures for climate adaptation, it noted.
