Water scarcity is one ofrnW Australia's biggest challenges,' says Richard Went, immediate past Director of Gold Coast Water (as of 1 July 2010, Gold Coast Water transitioned to Allconnex Water).'For almost a decade, many parts of eastern Australia had been battling one of the most severe droughts in the country's recorded history, known as the Millennium Drought. Prolonged drought conditions, in tandem with rapid population growth, had placed a significantrnpressure on the city's water supply source, highlighting its vulnerability. These combined pressures thereby provided opportunistic drivers for the creation of sustainable and innovative water management solutions.
