Singapore, being a small city state with only 710km2 in land area, has abundant rainfall but limited storage. To increase its water sources, Singapore expanded its local catchment from half to two thirds of Singapore's land area with the completion of the Marina and Punggol-Serangoon Reservoirs, and introduced alternative sources such as high-grade reclaimed water, branded as NEWater, and seawater desalination. Singapore next casts its eye upon tapping the potentially valuable marginal catchments to achieve a more than 90% water catchment.
