As late as 2001, groundwater wells provided essentially all the potable water used by the communities in the west central region of Florida, USA, served by Tampa Bay Water.rnToday, however, the agency uses a variety of sources - including surface water and desalinated seawater - to supply its customers. Groundwater represents about half the total. It is the result of extensive planning, which dates to the 1990s, which sets Tampa Bay apart as a metropolitan region working cooperatively to develop alternative water supplies and prepare for future growth.
