A renewable source of electricity can be generated by recoveringrnenergy from pressure reduction in water pipes - energy which would otherwise be lost as waste heat The city of Keene, in New Hampshire, USA, is starting to exploit this potential at its water treatment facility.rnThe city of Keene, New Hampshire, USA is recovering energy in the form of renewable electricity in an innovative way. The city's water treatment facility (WTF) has teamed with Rentricity Inc. to generate 'green' electricity from the excess pressure in the treatment facility's water pipes. The Rentricity installation - called Flow-to-Wire - is comprised of a micro-turbine, generator, sensors, processors, electronic controls and communications equipment. This proprietary energy recovery system reduces the WTF's electricity consumption from the regional power grid and decreases its carbon footprint accordingly.
