Water pollution maps made available online

Real-time maps of water pollution are now available online thanks to the EU-funded INTAMAP project. This has developed open specifications to draw up contour maps that show the exact location of pollution, as well as indicating where it is coming from and where it is heading to. The EU hopes the maps will enable public authorities to decide more quickly on actions to tackle pollution sources and enable individuals to avoid it. Researchers from Austria, Belgium, Germany, Greece, The Netherlands and the UK worked on the three-year project, which formed part of the Sixth Framework Programme.
