摘要

The Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs has been running a campaign to raise awareness of the lack of safe drinking water on many remote First Nations territories, as proposed new legislation is put forward to try to develop federal regulations for these areas. Roughly 50% of First Nation homes in the Island Lakes region of north-east Manitoba have standard household potable water systems. Some homes have cisterns and water is delivered every week or fortnight, though supplies are said to run out frequently. Other First Nations people who have no cisterns have to bring water to their homes by pail from surface water sources.
