Since 2009, IWA has been conducting human resource capacity gap studies in five countries (Zambia, Mali, South Africa, Bangladesh and Timor Leste). The results of an additional ten assessments are now available (Philippines, Sri Lanka, Lao PDR, Papa New Guinea, Tanzania, Mozambique, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Senegal, Niger), indicating: There is a lack of institutional capacity to organise human resources in the WASH sector, including a lack of coordination between various ministries involved in WASH, a lack of coordination between the education sector and WASH sector, and a lack of coordination between the donor and finance community and institutions.
