The American Water Works Association (AWWA) has hailed the progress of legislation that would create the Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Authority (WIFIA), a concept that the association created and has long backed, as a 'pivotal moment in assuring America's water infrastructure challenge is no longer buried'. The WIFIA pilot programme is included in the Water Resources Development Act of 2013, which was passed by 83 votes to 14. The AWWA called the passage of the bill a 'huge step forward' for water consumers, and urged broad support as the legislation moves onwards.
