摘要

The major weak point of the conventional processes of existing water treatment plants in Shanghai is rather inefficient for organic contaminants and mutagens removal. Since 1987, the research work on biological oxidation processes for advanced water treatment with Huangpu River raw water has been undertaken for the purpose of renovation and rehabilitation of existing conventional water treatment plants. On the basis of the results of this study, the authors put forward their proposal that the renovation and rehabilitation of the conventional water purification processes in existing water treatment plants will be reasonable, feasible and operatable by means of biological approaches such as pre-treatment with biotower, conventional facilities renovated with biological processes and bio-activated carbon filtration. It is one of the most important measures for us to apply advanced treatment technology to renovation and rehabilitation of existing out-of-date water purification facilities towards 21st century.
