For most Nashvlllians, the morning of Saturday, May 1, 2010, gave little warning of a natural disaster of historic proportions. The weather forecasts were typical for the season, with a chance of strong thunderstorms in the afternoon. The forecasts included the potential for additional heavy rain late in the weekend, locally totaling up to nine inches, but few residents imagined a two-day downpour that would drop more than four months worth of rainfall over an area of about 10,000 square miles.
