FOOD SECURITY AND VULNERABILITY IN THE LOWER MEKONG RIVER BASIN

The Mekong River is one of the world's most productive rivers, flowing some 4,800 km through six countries (People's Republic of China, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam) (Figure 1). This international river system has very high biological diversity, including 850 fish species and thousands of plant, animal, and insect species. New species of plants, animals, and birds continue to be discovered throughout the region.
