Estimates indicate that by 2025, two-thirds of the world's people will face water shortages, and water is al ready scarce in many places around the world. Without intervention, Arizona and other fast-growing parts of the arid Southwestern United States (U.S.) are likely to be among the first areas in the U.S. to experience water scarcity. The Arizona Project WET School Water Audit Program (SWAP) is an effort to tackle the problem head-on, using the power of teachers and students to make small changes that can add up to real water savings. Launched in 2008 with funding from the philanthropic arm of the pharmaceutical company Abbott, SWAP is a state extension of the Project WET Foundation's Conserve Water program, which includes the 2007 Arizona Conserve Water Educators' Guide.
