In recent years, United States (U.S.) students - especially in underserved urban schools - have consistently ranked low internationally in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) subjects. With many of the most promising career options of the future requiring a solid foundation in STEM, initiatives promoting STEM education for urban youth are becoming increasingly common. An innovative partnership between the world's leading water resources education program, the Project Water Education for Teachers (WET) Foundation, and the Houston Chapter of the National Basketball Retired Players Association (NBRPA-HC) is one such initiative.
