REDISCOVERY OF THE TAMSUI RIVER FOR A SUSTAINABLE TAIPEI CITY, TAIWAN

摘要

The Tamsui River is the third largest river in Taiwan. At 99 miles in length, the watershed covers about 1,052.5 square miles over five different counties including Taipei City (Taipei), Taiwan's political and economic center. With such a central location, the Tamsui River has always enjoyed top priority from the Taiwanese government. River management has evolved over the past several decades from one that viewed the river as something to be controlled and exploited to a sustainable view of a modern society that seeks harmony among economy, culture, and environment.
