Groundwater arsenic: From genesis to sustainable remediation

Occurrences of arsenic (As) in groundwater and its impact on millions of individuals worldwide is a serious environmental health issue. The sources of As are both natural and anthropogenic and affect different regions of the world both on a local as well as a regional scale. This special issue aims to present a wide and multi-disciplinary coverage of themes related to the problem of As contamination in the environment and the approaches that could be adopted for sustainable mitigation. These themes include: 1) arsenic in rocks, ground- and surface water: occurrence, genesis and mobility; 2) arsenic remediation and mitigation: sustainable industrial-scale and emerging small-scale options; and 3) arsenic exposure, health risk assessment and other socioeconomic impacts of mitigation.
