SAB Urges EPA To Refocus 'Value of Water' Study On Regional Differences

EPA's science advisers are urging the agency to refocus its planned study on the value of water on differences in the way regions across the country consider water valuation, saying the agency's current plan to examine valuation based on industry sectors may overlook key regional issues — such as droughts — that play a major role in how value is assessed. "If you're going to make it more quantitative than qualitative, you can't take it at the 10,000-foot level — you have to look at how water is regionally valued," Frank Loge, a member of the Science Advisory Board's (SAB) specially augmented Environmental Economics Advisory Committee panel charged with reviewing the agency's approach said during a Dec. 5 teleconference.
