EPA Slated To Unveil Strict New Anti-Bias Guide For Contractor Peer Reviews

EPA is poised to strengthen its policies for ensuring that contractors do not select experts for reviewing agency risk assessments and other scientific documents that may have conflicts of interest, after environmentalists raised concerns that the contractor review of EPA's hexavalent chromium (Cr6) assessment included two allegedly conflicted reviewers. Agency sources expect officials to release the new guidance document in the next two weeks, with one source indicating that the document, under development for several months, will be released before Administrator Lisa Jackson leaves office soon after President Obama's Feb. 12 State of the Union address.
