摘要

Mining industry officials say EPA's final Clean Water Act (CWA) jurisdiction rule could increase permit burdens and exacerbate delays in the permitting process highlighted in a new study sponsored by the sector, while they push for Congress to approve legislation that aims to accelerate mines' ability to obtain permits. The June 25 study, "Permitting, Economic Value, and Mining in the United States," crafted by SNL Metal and sponsored by the National Mining Association (NMA), seeks to quantify the costs associated with permitting delays and lost investments. It found that "on average, a typical mining project loses more than one-third of its value as a result of unexpected delays in receiving the numerous permits needed to begin production."
