North Carolina Governor Presses EPA On Regulating GenX Chemical

North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper (D) is pressing EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt to take steps under several environmental statutes to address a perfluorinated chemical known as GenX that has been found in the Cape Fear River, a source of drinking water for four counties in the state. In a July 17 letter, he urged Pruitt to quickly complete EPA's health assessment of the substance and set a drinking water standard, revisit a 2009 enforcement order that allowed Chemours, the DuPont spinoff, to use the chemical and use authority under the new toxics law to evaluate the substance's risks.
