Keynote speech: Water for all is a matter of good governance: the OECD perspective

Managing and securing access to water and sanitation for all is one of the most challenging items in the world agenda. It requires us to rethink the governance structure of water to deal with it not only at the national level but also globally. At the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), water is one of our priorities, and I am pleased to share with you our main questions and findings.rnThere are two key water challenges that are interrelated. First, this vital resource is being mismanaged and unsustainably used. Second, the international community is not living up to its promise of ensuring access to adequate water and sanitation services for all.rnWater is essentially a local issue, and, therefore, there are no one-size-fits-all answers. But solutions do exist, and most of them have to do with governance and management. Let us look more closely at the two challenges we have mentioned.
