With this issue we launch a new depart-ment that will focus on insights into seaplane equipment and operations. If you've read "How To Fly Floats"-and you probably have-then you know of the author of this column, J.J. Frey. "J.J." as he likes to be called, wrote the iconic seaplane training manual that has sold more than 225,000 copies and been published in three languages. With a 38-plus-year career at EDO Corporation's Float Operation, retiring as Vice President of the Seaplane Operation, J.J. has been instrumental in the growth and development of the seaplane industry. A licensed pilot since 1964, he has accumulated more than 5000 hours flying throughout Canada and the U.S., including Alaska. He currently serves as a Director of The Seaplane Pilots Association.
