Development of a Methodology to Set Up Odour-Quality Objectives for Sewage-Treatment Plants in Flanders

On the basis of elaborate odour studies around three sewage-treatment plants, the relationship between mod- elled 10 mins average odour concentrations in combi- nation with exceedence frequencies (percentiles) and annoyance near the sewage-treatment plants, was investi- gated. Annoyance was measured by means of a telephone survey in the vicinity of the odour source. The odour concentrations were determined using sniffing measure- ments in combination with short-term and long-term dispersion model calculations-over a period of one year.
