Providers of essential utilities have been put to the test by worldwide onslaught of natural disasters, Add to that burden the potential for terrorist attacks, epidemic illnesses, and vandalism, and ensuring clean water and sanitation becomes a much more complex task. From hurricanes Katrina and Rita bearing down on the U.S. Gulf Coast to a tsunami and an earthquake battering Indonesia, the tasks of restoring, repairing, and in some cases, rebuilding basic water and sanitation have taken center stage. Additionally, other utilities throughout the United States and the world have recognized the need for more and better disaster response planning.
