Cultec Inc. (Brookfield, Conn.) provided increased storage to an outdated septic structure at Sandy Beach, a community beach at Lake Morris in Bantam, Conn. The beach was undergoing a major renovation that would include new bathrooms, a bath station, and a snack bar with a grease trap. The previous septic system had been installed in the 1950s and required an upgrade to provide enough storage to accommodate the new features. Engineers determined that a new wastewater management system would need a 5700-L (1500-gal) stormwater tank, a 7600-L (2000-gal) septic tank, and a 7600-L (2000-gal) pump chamber with two pumps to meet the requirements of the renovated beach complex. A number of trees were cut down and cleared to insert leaching galleys that would distribute effluent.
