For planning of investment needs oi water main rehabilitation, insight into the condition and deterioration of assets is required to estimate when their replacement is due. Maintenance and failure data can be useful sources of information to estimate failure frequencies or residual lifetime of asset populations. Research has shown that by sharing the failure data of individual companies, the data became much more valuable in terms of directive outcomes for strategic asset management.
