It was just about 60 years ago, with the close of World War II and the onset of technological developments, that Dubey & Schaldenbrand was born. Master watchmaker Georges Dubey ― who was also an instructor at the famed Watchmaking School of La Chaux-de-Fonds ― embarked on a quest to develop a reliable split-second chronograph that was also affordable. He developed the Index Mobile system, with recoil spring located between the dial and the crystal. In addition to the many patents the invention earned Dubey, it also garnered him international acclaim. For the ensuing three decades, Dubey, along with partner Rene Schaldenbrand, specialized in creating automatic watches and chronographs of distinction. Even in light of the quartz revolution and the decline of the Swiss watch industry, Dubey & Schaldenbrand continued its production of complex watches.
