Odds are that Charlie Appleby always will remember what he did last Christmas. After receiving a telephone call on Dec. 24 that Veolia ES Solid Waste Inc. was being put up for sale, the CEO of Advanced Disposal Services Inc. was busy that holiday starting to explore his company's potential level of interest. "It certainly made for an interesting Christmas Day as I certainly made my phone calls to equity partner Highstar Capital and we started brain-storming on what the opportunities and possibilities might be and even if we would have any interest in it," Appleby remembered.
