Old trash catches fire at Durant landfill; no injuries

A landfill in Durant, Okla., caught fire for several hours on July 10 after some trash that had been sitting for days ignited, local news reported. The fire started around 7:30 a.m. at the city-owned landfill after workers moved around some trash that had been dumped there a couple days ago, Durant Fire Marshal Wade Boyd told KTEN news. Workers tried to put out the blaze with a bulldozer, but had to call firefighters to the scene after the wind continued to spread the flames, the station reported.
