All eight Republicans who sit on the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee refused to show up May 9 for the panel's vote on Gina McCarthy's confirmation as U.S. EPA administrator. The Republican senators announced in a letter that they would be boycotting the vote un- til McCarthy answers all of their requests related to transparency. The Democrats present at the vote agreed that McCarthy did answer their questions, and in fact answered over 1,000 questions, but that the Republican members simply didn't get the answers they wanted.
