Toward a total MSW recycling management in Taiwan

Taiwan is an island in Asia, 361,000 km2 in size with a population of 23 million. In Taiwan the daily per capita production of MSW increased rapidly due to economic growth by 2002. Following the early Waste Disposal Act (WDA, instituted in 1974), Taiwan promulgated the Resource Recycling and Reuse Act (RRRA) in July 2002 to promote the efficient use of recycled materials. This Act was built on the concept of product life cycles and comprehensive planning starting from the initial design, manufacture, use, extending to recovery.
