Russia to restore Soviet naval bases

Amid existing geopolitics tensions, Russia plans to significantly strengthen its presence around the world over the coming years which will involve more active development of naval bases according to statements recently made by some senior commanders of the Russian Navy. During the Soviet era, the USSR operated naval bases in all Continents of the world except Australia, however the collapse of the country in 1991 resulted in the exodus of Soviet troops from the majority of these bases and subsequently, their closure. However, the situation has changed in recent years, as Russia has started to pay more attention to the restoration of its naval positions, which have significantly weakened since the beginning of 1990s.
