The first part of this series, covering Soviet cruisers whose design pre-dated the 1917 Revolution, was published in Warship International in 1978, at a time when authoritative published information on Soviet warships was very limited.1 The second part, covering the first ships of Soviet design, continues here with its second installment, covering ship characteristics. This article is planned to appear in four installments. Section 1 covering shipbuilding programs and ship design was published in W.I. vol. 45, no. 4. Section 3 is planned to complete the coverage of characteristics and treat the careers of the Project 26 type ships. Section 4 will treat the careers of the Project 26bis type ships. Data, where available, on ship characteristics changes in the post-World War II years will appear in these later installments.
