I was visiting my brother recently. He served in the Air Force as an airman, first class in the 1950s in Korea. His base was in Kun-san, Korea. He showed me some photos that he took while he was in the service. One of the photos was of a PT boat. The story that he told me was Koreans were stealing the arrester wires that were used on the airport runway for their copper content. They would come up to the base at night in junks, cut and steal the wire. Then they sailed some distance away, striped the rubber off, and soldi the metal core. To help prevent this, the Navy "lent" the Air Force two PT boats they used to try and stop the junks from transporting the wire.
