The North London Waste Authority (NLWA) was established in 1986 as a statutory waste disposal authority after the abolition of the Greater London Council. It is currently made up of 14 elected representatives from seven North London Borough Councils including Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Hackney, Haringey, Islington and Waltham Forest.rnThe NLWA is the UK's second largest waste disposal authority and is responsible for the treatment and disposal of approximately one million tonnes of municipal waste annually. This waste is generated by the area's 1.7 million residents and some, mainly small, businesses.
