The East London Waste Authority has come a long way since being established in 1986

It handles 550,000 tons of waste from the North East London Boroughs of Newham, Barking and Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge. And, thanks to an innovative PFI partnership with Shanks back in 2002, it diverts over 60% of residual waste from landfill and expects to achieve its best ever recycling rate this year, with most boroughs at around 35%.
