A Provincial Waste Management Plan for the Austrian province of Styria has been agreed by the Styrian Government. In accordance with provisions of the 2004 Styrian Waste Management Act, the new plan addresses the following topics 1.current municipal waste volumes 2.treatment facilities 3.municipal waste prognosis 4.targets for sustainable waste and material flow management 5.strategies for waste prevention and waste treatment The waste management-related observations are based on waste-related data from the years 2003 to 2008. They include not only non-hazardous municipal waste, which is covered by provincial legislation, but also those wastes which are dealt with by communal collection and treatment structures.
